Our mission at the Arewa House – Centre for Historical Documentation and Research – Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna is to serve as a research-based reference point for the preservation and generation of new knowledge that would be the catalyst for social, political, economic and cultural transformation of Northern Nigeria in particular and the Nigerian nation in general.
Since its establishment in 1970, Arewa House has developed Library and Archival collections perhaps second to none by any comparable research center in Nigeria. It has collected thousands of ancient manuscripts and documents, organized international and national conferences on regional, national and global topical issues.
In 2012, the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP) was established under its auspices that has now founded ARDP Newsletter as a vehicle for disseminating knowledge-based information to the public. The aggregate objective is to aid the peoples of the Northern part of the country with the scientific information that would assist them in being positive change agents to their respective communities.
Therefore the vision of the ARDP Newsletter is to be the forum by which members of the project and other stakeholders would interact to translate cutting-edge knowledge into concrete political and socio-economic programs for the overall progress and development of the North and Nigeria.
The ARDP Newsletter will be published at least bi-monthly and will be circulated as complimentary to all identified stakeholders by post. Readers are thus encouraged, indeed implored to make the widest possible use of the knowledge and information contained in it. Criticism and contributions on all materials are highly solicited by all. To make the North and Nigeria far better than we found it is a collective responsibility.
